A Panel on Mountain Ecosystems was Held at Kyrgyz-Turkish “Manas” University

2022 was declared as the "Year of Protection of Mountain Ecosystems and Climate Resilience " by the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadir Caparov, on this occasion a panel on "The Ecosystem of the Kyrgyzstan Mountains: Environmental Problems and Their Solutions" was held at Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University in Kyrgyzstan.

The Panel, organized by the Faculty of Engineering at the Social Facilities Building Multifunctional Meeting Hall on April 19, 2022, was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Alpaslan Ceylan, Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Asilbek Kulmırzayev, Head of the Department of Biological Diversity and Protected Areas of the Kyrgyz Republic Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision Emil Ibrayev, Director of the Issyk Kul Biosphere Area Kumar Mambetaliyev, academics and students.

Rector Alpaslan Ceylan, in his opening speech, reminded that Kyrgyzstan is a mountainous country and said, “Mountains are known in Turkish Culture as the place where the spirits of ancestors take shelter. Therefore, mountains are sacred to us. It is necessary to evaluate the mountain culture well. Today, the mountain has come to an important position both in terms of tourism and in terms of biology. The fact that it is predicted that many countries will be under water due to the melting of glaciers in the next century, especially as a result of global warming, has increased this importance even more. 

Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Asilbek Kulmırzayev pointed out that Kyrgyzstan has great potential for nature tourism and stated that the protection of natural life and ecosystem in Kyrgyzstan is important both for all living things and for the economy of Kyrgyzstan.

Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Assoc. Dr. Nurzat Totubayeva gave an informative speech about the panel.

In the opening session moderated by Assoc. Dr. Nurzat Totubayeva, Emil Ibrayev made a speech on "Specially Protected Natural Areas of Kyrgyzstan" and Kumar Mambetaliyev made a presentation titled "The Current Situation of the Issyk Kul Biosphere Area".

Assoc. Dr. Totubayeva made presentations on "Analysis of the Anthropospheric Transformation Degree of the Issyk Kul Coastal Ecosystem, Evaluation of the Natural Potential and Environmental Risks of its Landscape" and "Assessment of the Environmental Risks of the Coastal Ecosystem for Horticulture".

After the panel, a "Scientific and Technical Cooperation Agreement" was signed between the Faculty of Engineering, Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Control of the Kyrgyz Republic, Department of Biological Diversity and Protected Areas, and Issyk Kul Biosphere Area Directorate.

The agreement paves the way for joint execution of projects aimed at solving fundamental scientific and practical problems related to the protection of unique ecosystems in nature reserves.

At the Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University many scientific and social events started to be planned and implemented within the framework of the declaration.
